Explanation of Policy Changes. Approximately 28 sections from FAA Order 8900.1 have been revised to re-enforce the use of the current risk management tools for repair station oversight. They place certain mandatory reporting requirements on information that was previously only recommended. Based on the DOT Office of the Inspector General (OIG) recommendations, formal coordination will not affect the outcome of these changes. Flight Standards Service (AFS) has provided a response to the OIG, and has incorporated changes in the subject documents to address the OIG recommendations. Aviation safety inspectors (ASI) will be required to initiate a risk management process (RMP) whenever a Program Tracking and Reporting Subsystem (PTRS) assessment is determined to be at a level lower than 3.
