Summary of Change. Volume 4, Chapter 15, Section 1, Electronic Flight Bag Operational Authorization Process.

Paragraphs 4-1641 through 4-1649 incorporate new information. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has written guidance that will allow operators to utilize “own-ship” position, on the ground, as a Type B EFB software application. Before this change, operators could have utilized AC 20-159 to perform the same function. With technological advancements of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment, and new database accuracy enhancements, the FAA has adopted policy that allows industry to leverage new technology, while providing our FAA field inspectors with guidance (Order 8900.1 & Detailed Job Aid) on ways to validate operator applications.
