National Policy

Summary of Change. Volume 1, Chapter 1, Section 3, Safety Assurance System: Acronyms and Abbreviations; Volume 3, Chapter 53, Section 2, Approve Training Course Outlines for a Part 141 Pilot School; Volume 5, Chapter 1, Section 2, Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) Qualification and Status; Volume 5, Chapter 1, Section 4, Considerations for the Practical Test; Volume 5, Chapter 2, Section 3, Flight Reviews and Competency Checks; Volume 5, Chapter 2, Section 4, Integrated Airman Certification and/or Rating Application Process; and Volume 5, Chapter 2, Section 9, Conduct an Instrument Rating Certification.

Explanation of Policy Changes. This change adds the Airman Certification Standards (ACS) as the standard for pilot certification and clarifies guidance to ensure the appropriate standard is utilized during airman certification and training course development. This change incorporates new information into the following sections:

    Volume 1, Chapter 1, Section 3, Safety Assurance System: Acronyms and Abbreviations;

    Volume 3, Chapter 53, Section 2, Approve Training Course Outlines for a Part 141 Pilot School;

    Volume 5, Chapter 1, Section 2, Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) Qualification and Status;

    Volume 5, Chapter 1, Section 4, Considerations for the Practical Test;

    Volume 5, Chapter 2, Section 3, Flight Reviews and Competency Checks;

    Volume 5, Chapter 2, Section 4, Integrated Airman Certification and/or Rating Application Process; and

    Volume 5, Chapter 2, Section 9, Conduct an Instrument Rating Certification.
