CHAPTER 8 Safety AWARDS AND Incentive programs
Section 1 General Information
15-8-1-1 GENERAL INFORMATION.
A. Purpose. This chapter identifies the safety award and incentive
programs managed or supported by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Safety
Team (FAASTeam). It contains policy and procedures to be used to promote, evaluate,
process, and present the awards.
B. Scope. The policy and procedures contained in this chapter
include information, roles and responsibility, administrative and task activities,
and reporting requirements. They apply to Flight Standards District Office (FSDO)-assigned
FAASTeam Program Managers (FPM), FSDO Managers, Regional FAASTeam Points of
Contact (RFPOC), and headquarters (HQ) staff personnel.

A. Safety Awards and Incentives. Safety award and incentive programs
encourage participation in safety, educational, and promotion programs. They
provide recognition and/or acknowledgement of airmen and organizations that
satisfy the requirements and/or have demonstrated the performance and behavior
to receive the awards.
B. FPM and FSDO Manager Role. FPMs and the FSDO Managers promote
and encourage participation, evaluate process or issue the award, and assist
airmen or organizations inquiring about the awards.
C. RFPOC Role. Provide award assistance/support to FPMs, select
and submit the regional winners of the General Aviation (GA) Award for national
competition, and oversee awards to high visibility or newsworthy recipients
within their region.
D. HQ Role. Develop award national policy and guidance, assist/support
RFPOCs or FPMs, process award presentation products for the winners of the GA
Award, process field requests and issue certificates for Wright Brothers and
Charles Taylor awards, maintain a supply of award products, and complete required
files or listings for awards.
E. Programs and Awards. The programs contained in this chapter include:
1) Charles Taylor “Master Mechanic” Award (MMA).
2) Wright Brothers “Master Pilot” Award (MPA).
3) Pilot Proficiency Program (WINGS).
4) Online Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Awards Program.
5) GA Industry Awards Program:
· AMT Award;
· Avionics Technician (AVN) Award;
· Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) Award; and
· FAASTeam Representative (REP) Award.
6) FAASTeam Aviation Safety Award.
