The purpose of this process is to provide operational system safety oversight and operational approval for establishing domestic ILS low visibility approach procedures facilities in accordance with FAA Orders , 8260.43, and 8400.13.

Tasks

Requests come from a variety of sources (e.g., PI, operators, and airport authorities).

2.1. Review request for Special Authorization (SA) Category I/II and ILS Category II/III approach procedure facilities.

2.2. Disseminate checklists to FAA lines of business and obtain their concurrence or nonconcurrence with the request. Notify Tech OPS to begin Continuity of Service (COS) evaluation.

2.3. Review and approve the operation and its associated minimums.

Task 5.2.1: Review Request for Special Authorization Category I/II and ILS Category II/III Approach Procedure Facilities.

Purpose

The purpose of this task is to identify the requirements and assess the feasibility of the concept to meet AFS standards.

    Knowledge of instrument procedure and airport design criteria

Task Standard

Notice of concurrence/nonconcurrence with concept feasibility is sent to airport authority promptly.
