Evaluation and approval of LVO/SMGCS plan/operation

The purpose of this process is to provide operational system safety oversight, analysis, and technical review/advice and approval for a LVO/SMGCS plan/operation developed by an airport authority in accordance with AC 120-157. The airport authority is requesting operational approval to conduct operations during periods of low visibility/weather.

Tasks

AWO serves as the LVO/SMGCS team lead, provides technical advice along with the other LOBs throughout the drafting of the written plan, creation of the low visibility taxi chart and letter of agreement, and final operational inspection conducted at night.

3.1. Provide technical advice on the written plan to the LVO/SMGCS working group.

3.2. Review and approve the LVO/SMGCS written plan.

3.3. Accept the LVO/SMGCS taxi chart.

3.4. Conduct LVO/SMGCS airport inspection at night to compare the plan to the airfield.

3.5. Grant final operational approval of LVO/SMGCS for the airport and prepare letter for management signature.

3.6. Review LVO/SMGCS written plan and overall operation periodically to identify needed changes and safety enhancements.
